REGICOR is a clinical epidemiological, hospital and population study with the primary objective of studying ischemic heart disease and the related risk factors at population scale, while monitoring healthcare resource utilization and patient prognosis over time.

Clinical Epidemiological study

The REGICOR study area includes 6 counties in the Catalan province of Girona: Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà, La Selva, El Gironès, La Garrotxa and Pla de l’Estany. This geographpic area has an area of 4610.8 km2 and a 2005 population of 608,730. It is served by a hospital network that consists of Dr. Josep Trueta University Hospital in Girona (the referral hospital), five public county hospitals -in Figueres, Palamós, Olot (Sant Jaume), Girona (Santa Caterina) and Blanes- that can admit patients with acute myocardial infarction and without complications, and two private clinics, Clínica Girona and Clínica de l’Aliança.

Most acute myocardial infarction cases are transferred to the University Hospital’s coronary unit in Girona.
